    Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike free calculators available online, 3D Cost Calculator is an application that you buy once and own entirely. We chose this business model for several important reasons:

Your privacy comes first: As the saying goes, "If it's free, you're the product." Free online services often monetize your personal data, your 3D printing habits, or your projects. With our application, all your data (filaments, machines, projects, calculations) are stored locally on your computer, not on remote servers.

No recurring subscription: You pay only once (€9.99) and benefit from all features for life, with no additional costs or surprises.

Works offline: Unlike web tools, you can use 3D Cost Calculator even without an internet connection, ideal for the workshop or when traveling.

No usage limits: Create as many printer profiles, filaments, and projects as you want, with no restrictions.

Constant evolution: The revenue generated allows us to continue improving the application and regularly add new features, without having to resort to advertising or selling your data.

We believe that a professional tool that respects your privacy and gives you total control over your data is worth this modest investment.

The application uses the weight in grams of the filament used and the price per kilo that you have configured. The calculation is simple: weight used × price per kilo / 1000. You can define different prices for each type and brand of filament in the settings.

Depreciation is calculated based on the purchase price of your printer, its estimated lifespan (in printing hours), and the print time of the project. For example, if your printer cost €500 and you estimate its lifespan at 5000 hours, each hour of printing "costs" €0.10 in depreciation.

Yes, the application works entirely offline. All your data is stored locally on your device. An Internet connection is only necessary to activate the license or to update the application.

Most slicers like Cura, Orca, PrusaSlicer, or Simplify3D show you the estimated weight of the filament that will be used after slicing your model. You can simply enter this value in our application. For even more precision, you can weigh your spool before and after printing.
